HAZWOPER trainings and wildlife recovery and transportation work

To respond during declared oil spill events in the official spill area (the spill area gets defined by the safety officer within the Incident Command System during the spill), up-to-date HAZWOPER training is required.

This table should help:

What is my current HAZWOPER training status? Can I help with wildlife recovery in spill areas during declared spill events? What HAZWOPER training do I need?
Never taken HAZWOPER No capture allowed; cannot go in spill area 24 hr HAZWOPER
24 hr HAZWOPER within last 12 mon Capture allowed w/in 12 months of HAZWOPER class, 8 hr refresher needed
8 hr HAZWOPER refresher w/in last 12 mon Capture allowed w/in 12 months of HAZWOPER class, 8 hr refresher needed
8 or 24 hr HAZWOPER taken >12<24 mon ago No capture allowed 8 hr refresher required
8  or 24 hr HAZWOPER taken>24 mon ago No capture allowed 24 hr HAZWOPER needs to be taken again

To work in facilities during spills, currently a 4 hour Hazardous Communication training is required.

Stay posted on a summer/fall list of Hazwoper training opportunities.
