This past week has been a busy one for the OWCN. Nils, January, Greg and Mike headed out to Estonia to attend and present at the Effects of Oil on Wildlife conference. Meanwhile, Yvette and I headed down to the Santa Barbara area to participate in a three-day drill with Exxon Mobile.
This week’s drill was really great! During a spill I would be stationed at the primary care facility and working with the volunteers and staff members, so having an opportunity to get a glimpse into what happens at the command post was a great experience. It’s pretty amazing to see how individuals from so many areas of expertise, industries and organizations come together to achieve a common goal. It’s easy to focus only on your area of response, but being at the Command Post reminds you of all the other parts moving.
Plus, it was pretty awesome to have a chance to hang out with our newest team member. It’s hard to believe that she started in September! Yvette’s amazing knowledge and experience was a terrific asset at the drill. If you haven’t had a chance to meet Yvette, she’ll be attending the Annual Rehabilitation Conference so feel free to take a minute to introduce yourself!
P.S. Hope everyone is having a great Friday!
