I am happy to report that we have officially filled the Response Veterinarian position for the OWCN. Dr. Christine Fiorello, Asst. Professor of Zoo Med from the University of Georgia’s College of Veterinary Medicine, has agreed to make the cross-country move and join us.
Christine brings with her a wealth of experience in addition to her DVM from Tufts, including a small animal internship from Angell Memorial (one of the most challenging veterinary internships available in the US), a PhD in Ecology from Columbia (studying South American carnivores) and a residency (and ACZM Board certification) in Zoological Medicine from the University of Florida. Most recently, in addition to her teaching, clinical and research activities (including mentoring an intern and resident in Zoo Med), she has acted as the Faculty Director of the Wildlife Treatment Crew at UGa.
What drew Christine to this position was “the opportunity to combine clinical wildlife medicine with conservation medicine and research”, and accomplishing this with native wildlife and working with the excellent wildlife professionals we have here within the OWCN. We are excited that Christine has agreed to join us in this critical role, and welcome the breadth of experience she will give to this position. She will officially start May 3rd, but will be spending the first several weeks telecommuting. Her first day here in Davis will be May 17th.
Please join me in welcoming Christine to the team!
