Long Beach Harbor Spill

The OWCN has been activated in response to an oil spill in Long Beach Harbor that occurred on the evening of Sunday, November 7.  The spill resulted from an overflow of approximately 10 barrels of bunker fuel (IFO 380) during refueling of a cargo vessel.  OWCN activated one search and collection team from International Bird Rescue Research Center and a second team is ready to assist these efforts if necessary.  At this time, no oiled animals have been collected.  If any oiled birds are collected, they will be transported to The Los Angeles Oiled Bird Care and Education Center for care.  The US Coast Guard and the Department of Fish and Game are overseeing containment and cleanup of the spill.

If you have a report of oiled wildlife, please call 877-UCD-OWCN or 877-823-6926.
