The weekend before Thanksgiving, Kyra and I headed up to Yosemite for the California Council for Wildlife Rehabilitators (CCWR) Annual Symposium. Despite the terrible hardship of spending a weekend in the stunning beauty of Yosemite, we enjoyed ourselves immensely! The symposium covered diverse topics ranging from rearing skunks to parasitology to raptor anatomy. Dr. Becky Duerr and Julie Skoglund of International Bird Rescue Research Center both presented, and Dr. Duerr spoke about some of her ongoing OWCN-funded research in a presentation on avian digestive physiology. Many of California’s wildlife rehab organizations were represented by their staff and volunteers. I was delighted to have the opportunity to meet rehabbers from all over the state and was impressed by how many people I spoke with who have worked and volunteered during an oil spill. I’m looking forward to next year’s conference!
