Well, we got lucky over Thanksgiving with no spill so I figured we wouldn’t be so lucky over Christmas (especially since many of the UC Davis folks are gone including me -which forces me to blog on my iPhone so pardon the typos).
We were activated yesterday afternoon for a small release in Dominguez Channel, just north of San Pedro, where two “oiled” birds were seen in the area. IBRRC staff were immediately ready, but the decision was made to start at first light today due to the late hour of activation. One bird was captured this morning, but it was determined to just have a “bathtub” ring of soiling (no oil) and to be waterproof so it was released. Search and collection will continue through today, with the hope that no additional birds are seen.
With that brief update, the OWCN wishes everyone a wonderful holiday season! We will be taking a break from blogging until the New Year so safe celebrations to all!
