May 21 Update: Spill Response at Pt. Mugu Naval Station

Good Morning Everyone,

The OWCN was de-activated last night for the spill at Pt. Mugu Naval Station.  Two Recovery & Transportation teams, and one Hazing team were on site on Thursday (5/19), and one Recovery & Transportation team was on scene on Friday (5/20).

Plane crashes at Pt. Mugu Naval Station. All 3 crew members exited the plane safely.

Wildlife impacts were minimal, with one oiled Western Grebe seen on Thursday, along with several Terns diving in the sheen.  There were reports on Friday of 2 loons on the beach, however, the teams never spotted them, and they may be associated with loons that have shown up in the past week, oiled from natural seeps.

The fuel from the spill appears to be contained, and Navy biologists remain in the area in case there are any more impacted animals.
