On Thursday, December 6, 2012 the OWCN was activated for a spill in the San Pedro Marina, Berth 73 region. The source of this spill is still unknown at the moment, but because of its extent and persistence, as well as the number of marine birds in the area, the Department of Fish and Game, Office of Spill Prevention and Response activated one Wildlife Recovery team. A local team, with members from International Bird Rescue, was quickly mobilized and on scene. By the end of the day, a total of three birds were collected: one live bird (a Brandt’s Cormorant) and two dead birds. The cormorant is currently in care at the Los Angeles Oiled Bird Care and Education Center.
Happy weekend, everyone!
